eTa Blades is part of MARLIC Project, “Marche Applied Research Laboratory for Innovative Composites”, the collaborative platform developed in Marche region and co-financed by the POR Marche FESR 2014-2020.
The platform objective is to create a collaborative research center (based in the city of Camerino, by the University), in which all the skills on advanced materials and their biomaterials that come both from the industrial sector and from Research Bodies will be systematized.
The project involves 27 subjects: 21 companies from Marche region (including eTa Blades) and 5 public research bodies (Camerino University, Marche Polytechnic University, Urbino University, ENEA and CNR). Each of them, within their activities related to the platform, have as main focus, products eco-sustainability and processes for new materials and the approach of reduction, reuse, recycling and recovery of resources.
«We deal with the real feasibility of the circular economy for these innovative composite materials: the goal is to design materials whose end of life will be known in advance, so that they can become something else useful and usable» explains Enrico Marcantoni, professor of organic chemistry at the School of Science and Technology of the Camerino University, coordinator and scientific manager of what is recognized as the fourth collaborative research technological platform launched in the Marche region.
«We decided to participate in the MARLIC project in order to answer the question “Which opportunities for reuse, recovery and recycling for the production waste and composite components produced by our factory?” » says Giovanna Mangani, Project Manager at eTa Blades.
ETa’s commitment to MARLIC is in fact focused on the search for solutions, in a circular economy perspective, relating to the reuse, recycling, recovery of thermosetting composite waste that will be used as raw and / or second materials for the same production of origin or for different productions favouring industrial symbiosis.
eTa Blades participates in two of the 4 project lines into which the Project is divided and specifically participates in Line 1, relating to the creation of a laboratory in Camerino municipality where the activities and tests envisaged by the “De-Manufacturing” R&D project are developed and Line 2 in which it’s an industrial partner within the “De-Manufacturing” R&D project for the achievement of some production objectives.
The company, leader in wind turbines production, is in fact engaged in three different activities: identifying applicable technologies and solutions for the recovery and recycling of thermosetting composite materials from production waste and composite components at the end of their life for the wind sector, in the reuse of recovered materials as raw materials and in the same type of product or for different uses in different supply chains through the creation of application prototypes and finally in the reduction of the flow of composite waste in the wind power sector.
«Currently our composite production waste is disposed of in landfills, as are the components at the end of their life. It’s our intention to be able to find another destiny to be able to enhance them» concludes Giovanna Mangani.
